Ataxia treatment with stem cell therapy – Miguel

Miguel was diagnosed with spinocerebellar ataxia (SCA), and he visited China and looked for stem cell therapy for ataxia.

Miguel is from Spain, he was diagnosed with spinocerebellar ataxia (SCA). Before coming to China for stem cell treatment, Miguel and his family searched for treatment in their home country, however, no improvement was seen from various approaches to ataxia therapy.

Migule’s mother and younger brother also experienced the same symptoms he has, which confirmed that Miguel’s condition is hereditary manner. The condition and its limitations have brought inconvenience to Miguel’s daily life, and have urged him and his family to look for alternative treatment options in China.

Condition before stem cell treatment

Miguel arrived in China in April 2011, upon hospital admission, he presented with slurred speech, which made it difficult to communicate.

There was an apparent increase in lower limb muscle tone. Miguel’s movements were very clumsy, he was unable to walk without assistance, he had to walk by holding the wall or leaning on his wife, and there was no way for him to maintain balance with his eyes closed. All these symptoms depressed Miguel, and his emotional status was low.

Method of treatment

Miguel had comprehensive treatment, including stem cell therapy, treatment to improve circulation and nutrition of the neural system, combined with Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and rehabilitation training.

Condition after treatment

After stem cell treatment, many improvements were noticed by Miguel and his wife. Soon after the completion of the 4 weeks treatment, Miguel began speaking better, making it easier for him to communicate with other people.

With better balance control, Miguel could again walk independently. During his hospitalization, Miguel finished balance training from level 2 to level 5 (the highest level in physiotherapy). After completing the rehabilitation program, Miguel could complete kickball exercises. More flexibility was noted in Miguel’s alternating movements.

In addition, Miguele re-gained a positive approach and felt genuinely happy with the progress achieved during and after his stem cell treatment.
